Welcome to the Town of Apple River!

The Town of Apple River is located in the northwest part of Wisconsin in Polk County. The Town of Apple River was founded June 22,1876 and is centrally located in the county.  In those early days agriculture, in particular dairy farms, and logging were the predominant industries.  Time has brought about change.  Agricultural land use is still prevelant but Minnesotans visiting for recreational activities and area residents commuting to the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area for employment is common.

Our town is about 6% water, made up of numerous lakes and the Apple River.  As a tributary of the St. Croix River, the Apple River enters from the east, meanders across the town in a westerly direction and then abruptly turns south into the Apple River Flowage.

The Town of Apple River offers many opportunities to hike, fish, snowmobile, canoe and enjoy the beautiful scenery.  The extensive county and state trails network provides many opportunities to visit a large part of our state.

Our population is 1171 and growing!  The town has a volunteer fire department which celebrated its 60th Anniversary in 2017.  U.S. Highway 8 is a busy east-west thoroughfare connecting the nearby villages of Balsam Lake, St. Croix Falls and Amery to the west, and Turtle Lake to the east.  Our location provides many opportunities for employment and recreation.
